What is Centering Pregnancy?
Group Prenatal Care at Holy Family Birth Center
Holy Family’s Centering Pregnancy program offers a unique model of prenatal care that brings women with similar due dates together in a supportive group setting. Instead of brief individual appointments, families experience prenatal care through extended visits that combine medical care, education, and meaningful connection with other parents.
In Centering Pregnancy, mothers and their support people move out of traditional exam rooms and into a comfortable group setting where they can learn, ask questions, and build community with others who are also walking through pregnancy.
Pregnancy is a journey that is meant to be shared.

How Centering Pregnancy Works
Centering follows the recommended schedule of 10 prenatal visits, but each session lasts 90 minutes to two hours, giving families significantly more time with their provider than traditional prenatal care.
Each session includes:
• Individual prenatal health assessments
• Time with your provider for belly checks and clinical monitoring
• Guided education on pregnancy, labor, breastfeeding, and newborn care
• Group discussion and shared learning
• Opportunities for partners or support people to participate
Participants actively engage in their care by tracking their own health information, such as weight and blood pressure, while still receiving individualized attention from their midwife.
After health assessments are complete, the group gathers for guided discussions and interactive activities that address topics such as:
• Nutrition during pregnancy
• Managing common pregnancy discomforts
• Stress management
• Labor and birth preparation
• Breastfeeding
• Infant care
These conversations allow families to learn not only from their providers but also from each other.

Why Families Love Centering Pregnancy
Many families describe Centering Pregnancy as one of the most meaningful parts of their prenatal experience.
More Time with Your Provider
Centering visits allow families to spend significantly more time with their midwives, creating space for deeper conversations and personalized guidance.
Stronger Support Networks
Pregnancy can feel overwhelming. Being surrounded by others experiencing the same stage of pregnancy creates a sense of support, friendship, and shared understanding.
Greater Confidence
Families leave sessions feeling more informed and prepared for labor, birth, and caring for their newborn.
Better Health Outcomes
Studies show that group prenatal care models like Centering Pregnancy are associated with healthier pregnancies and improved birth outcomes.
Learning Through Conversation
Instead of lectures or pamphlets, Centering sessions encourage open discussion, questions, and shared experiences, making learning more engaging and meaningful.
Enrollment & Upcoming Groups
Centering Pregnancy groups are closed sessions, meaning participants begin the program together and progress through the sessions as a group. Once a group has started, additional participants cannot join until the next cohort begins.
If you are interested in participating, we encourage you to contact our team to learn about upcoming Centering Pregnancy sessions and whether one may be the right fit for your pregnancy timeline.

A Community of
Support
Centering groups typically include 8–10 women who are due around the same time. As the group progresses through pregnancy together, many families form lasting friendships and support systems that continue long after their babies are born.
This shared experience helps reduce feelings of isolation and builds the kind of community that makes pregnancy and early parenthood more joyful and supported.
At Holy Family, Centering Pregnancy reflects our broader mission of providing compassionate, relationship-centered care for families across the Rio Grande Valley.
